How can I make XP the default OS when the list comes up at boot up?
Windows 7 is highlighted now, but I want XP to be highlighted.

Are you dual booting? Did you install 7 over top of XP? Need more information please.

Dual Booting

I've been using XP, then I recently partitioned my primary drive and installed Windows 7 to dual boot.

Right click on Computer on the right side of the Start menu and select properties. Select Advanced system settings on the left side of the System panel that opens. From that dialog select the Startup and Recovery settings. You should then be able to select the OS you want to be the startup default, along with a few other things.

Like you could disable the automatic restart after a system failure. This would give you time to read any error messages that may be displayed related to the failure.
