ohk this might sound dumb,

but my mate has an oem version of windows 7 on his pc but his hard drive has failed and i was just wondering
if it can be wiped of the broke drive then installed onto a new drive with same product key?

thanks

As long as he has that product key and as long as he is putting the new hard drive into the same old machine, then he can install W7 to the replacement hard drive with the OEM key. Note that sometimes after a reinstall it may be necessary to call Microsoft to get it activated, but if you explain the hard drive had to be replaced then they should be very accommodating.
