Windows 7 can not set security on sub folders/files

Explorer/Computer
Right click on folder
Properties
Security
Tried Edit and Advanced
Changed Permissions
Add
Enter username
Full Control Allow
Apply these permissions to objects and or containers in this container
ONLY is not ticked
OK
I have tried with and without replace all child objects
OK
OK

BUT the subfolders and files stil ldon't have access!
