Windows 7 Backup Failure

When trying to do a backup with windows7 I receive the following error code 0x81000037.
Following shows up in the event viewer:
Event ID 14 Volsnap The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because of an I/O failure on volume C: Details: \Device\Hard disk volume shadow copy4 (0000000003003000000000000E0006C00B000000850100C001000000000000000000000000000000)

Event ID 517 Backup application The backup operation that started at 2013-04-27T16:15:22.9930000002 has failed with the following error code 2155347999 (windows could not find the shared protection point) Please review the event details for a solution and then rerun the backup operation when the issue is resolved. Details: backup time 2013-04-27T16:15:22.9930000002. Error code 2155347999 Error message %%2155347999

Event ID 4104 Windows Backup The backup was not successful. The error is windows backup failed while trying to read from the shadow copy on one of the volumes being backed up. Please check in the event log for any relevant errors. 0x81000037 Details (37000081E30500003F0900005B090000420ED1665C2BEE174B64529CB14610EA71000000)

Can anyone assist in resolving this problem?

I've never used Windows Backup so this isn't my forté, but while we wait for someone who knows what the hell they're talking about to show up, you could run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /r to make sure the system files are OK and there are no bad sectors on the drive.

See Work-around to Issue 2 listed HERE by Microsoft.

Personally I think Windows Backup just has too many "issues" and I think you should consider an alternative product. Check out the Backup & Recovery section of our Freeware DB for other ideas.
