Windows 7 Backup and Restore

Boris

I have a Win7 laptop and was reading this article about the native Windows7
Backup and Restore.

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/1838/using-backup-and-restore-in-windows-7/

When the author says he's making a backup of certain files, AND a system
image, is the system image that the application makes a full image of the
entire harddrive? That is, is it the type of image that you can restore
your harddrive from? If so, why also is the authore making a backup of
certain files?

TIA.

The system image is done by partition, but I like many others do a
regular one for the whole hard drive; ie the system partition and others
on the drive. The good thing about that is that the Windows Repair boot
CD will find those if ever you need to restore the whole drive/
partition. Very useful to cater for a disk crash (of which you see very
few these days, but better safe than sorry!).
The backups are done selectively for individual folders and files that
the user specifies. The usefulness here is that you can work from
within Windows to restore any individual file.
