Windows 7 and Three Modem

Hi folks

I got 3 mobile Broadband a few months ago on the 5 gig a month contract.
All was well in the land of XP. Got a new laptop with Windows 7, so I
thought there would be no issues.

After I installed the usual software, which incidentally, is the updated
drivers for Windows 7 - it seemed to go okay, for about two minutes. The
whole system just froze. I have tried for days, and the issue just repeats.
Can go for about five minutes tops, and then it freezes.

I have tried not even opening Internet Explorer, but it still does it. So I
got a mates PC with Windows 7 on it. It does exactly the same thing. I
have trawled the net to see if anyone else has these issues, but with no
luck. I got back to XP on the laptop temporarily while I try to find a
solution. I got a reply on another group with exact same hardware and
issue:
Hi, I have the exact same problem.
I am using a ZTE MF627 modem, windows 7 pro.
Like yourself within a couple of minutes of connection the system
freezes. Usually the mouse pointer is still active but that only lasta
a couple of minutes or until I try Ctrl Alt Del.
Luckily I still have my XP install to drop back on when I have to use
mobile internet, Win 7 is steady on my wifi connection for hours at a
time. No other crashes than when using the dongle.
Anybody any ideas?

I'll give it a go at the end of the week. I saw that thread, but not the
most recent reply. Many thanks.

I don't know if this will help but I have a USRobotics dial up modem
that worked fine with Vista but wasn't even recognized by win7. I called
USRobotics and they said I would have to download their Vista 64 bit
driver and install it. I did and the modem works ok now.

One fix for 3 dongle crashing Windows 7 x64 that's working for me

I've been having this problem for a few weeks now. I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and an E156G Huawei modem on 3. It would connect for about 2 mins then my system would hang and I had to restart.

Now I've found the problem seems to have been AVG Antivirus. I had the Free Edition installed. I've just uninstalled it and everything's working fine and it hasn't hung for hours now!

So if any of you have AVG, try removing it and see what happens, it's worked for me! Now I'm using Avast and it's fine!!! :)

Hope this helps some of you!!

We've had the same problem with our new Dell Laptop which is running Windows 7. Our 3 mobile broadband would freeze the computer totally after only a few minutes of connectivity. We then foud this string, uninstalled AVG, installed Avast and all is perfect!!! Our computer no longer freezes. Thank you BlueScorpion :)
