Win7 and Windows Live Mail

O

OldGuy

OK so many here do not like Windows Live Mail so I do not need to hear
about that.
I only use it for mail accounts I seldom look at. I use Opera for my
primary account.

My new computer is running Win 7 Pro with all the (ugh!) updates (350MB
worth) installed.
I installed Windows Live Essentials from MS website and got Live Mail 2011.
Why that one. I thought thate it should be 2012.

Anyway 2011 does not start but crashes all the time.So I decided to
uninstall but it does not show up in uninstall programs. None of the WL
Essentiats show up. All my other newly installed app do show up.

How do I get rid of WLE??
Where do I find WL Mail 2012?
I that does not fly then I will install Thunderbird.

TIA

I went to the MS website and downloaded the 2012 live essentials and
installed it over the top of the 2011. It worked OK

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Essentials#Windows_Essentials_2012_.28Wave_5.29

"Microsoft released Windows Essentials 2012 on
August 7, 2012 for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users."

So only W7 and W8 users should try to get this version.

*******

This page has a list of links to standalone installers.

http://www.askvg.com/official-links...ave-4-beta-full-standalone-offline-installer/

Even though the URL says Wave4, the title of that page is

"Official Links to Download Windows Essentials 2012 (Wave 5)
Full Standalone Offline Installer"

and the URL has "1rewlive5-all" in the download paths.

That's as close as I could get.

( Credit to this site, for showing me the naming convention, so
I would have a search term. This was direct links for an older
version, but gave a hint I needed "1rewlive5-all". YMMV. )

http://www.mydigitallife.info/downl...er-2011-final-full-version-offline-installer/

The test download I did, was 137,727,256 bytes for the Wave 5 version
and 225,431,912 bytes for the Wave 4 version. At least one
difference, would be that Messenger is deprecated and Skype
is considered the replacement now. I didn't try to analyse
the files at all. That should get you on the road to
messing up your computer :) (Backup before installing...)

Each installer .exe file, has a catalog.xml inside it, at
the top level (as seen by 7ZIP). if you wanted to analyse
what it was going to install, it would only take you
about three hours to read that file. Mounds of text.

HTH,

Direct download links to the Microsoft server for the installer
executable file

Full version 2012 installer
http://g.live.com/1rewlive5-all/en/wlsetup-all.exe

Web Version 2012 Installer – English Language Version
http://g.live.com/1rewlive5-web/en/wlsetup-web.exe

Note: Direct download links above are for the English language
installer. For a different country replace the ‘en’ with the local
language code.

Optionally if using Windows 7 or Windows 8 one can obtain the web
installer from MSFT main web page for Windows Essentials:

Microsoft Windows Live Web Site (web version installer for 2012)
http://explore.live.com/windows-live-essentials

Microsoft Windows Live Worldwide Downloads(web version installer for 2012)

What's the difference between the web install and the all install?
Web installer is a unified installer.....goes and gets the bits from the
server during the installation. The full installer has all the bits and
only grabs supporting files (e.g Photo Gallery and Movie Maker have a
few required applications that are downloaded from the MSFT servers if
not already present on the machine).

The current full version in the above link
<http://g.live.com/1rewlive5-all/en/wlsetup-all.exe> is the third
version and is termed as WLE12 QFE2 thus no new bits are available in
the installer since release in May 2013.

Since MSFT replaces the bits on the server with the new bits when
released...sometimes its a good idea to keep the old bits in full
version handy if one wishes to return to an earlier build.
