Win 7 Service Pack 1 strange result.

I installed Service Pack 1 on my three machines; one desktop is
hardwired to my AT&T 2Wire gateway(router), one Notebook is wireless
and the other desktop is also wireless. Install went great on all
three machines with one strange exception. On my wired desktop the
Network icon in the Start Tray now has a yellow exclamation mark and
says that I have no Internet access. The first time I saw this I
uninstalled SP 1 and the icon returned to normal. I reinstalled SP 1
and the yellow exclamation mark came back again.

So much for background; now the strange part! I DO have complete
Internet access. Not only that, I have total file sharing ability
between the three computers.

Has anyone ever seen this problem before? If so, how do I fix the
icon, other than uninstalling SP1?

One possibility (which I *think* I have experienced) is that the icon is
now reporting the status of another possible connection.

E.g. it might be showing that your desktop's wireless connection isn't
connected to the internet, but it is connected over the wired LAN.

Not really understanding your answer since I only have one "Local"
connection on my computer that is the Ethernet port built into my
mother board.

But, after trying everything I could think of for three days with no
luck, when I woke the computer this morning the yellow exclamation
point was gone- - - for now anyway. :) Thanks for the answer.

Since many - really most - computers today have more than one local
connection available, I expected that to be true of you as well.

For example, this box has both wireless and wired LAN built in. I
connect to the router/modem with a cable, and the wireless is turned
off. The various computers that live in or visit this house all have the
same two possibilities, but some are connect by wire and others by
wireless.

When there is more than one network connection in the computer, the
system tray status could be reported for the wrong one. Or so I think,
and, if I interpret his post correctly, Alias agrees.

I will, however, assume that your yellow exclamation point went away
because your computer was aware of my post, and so I take full credit
for the fix :)

Actually, things like that tend to annoy me, since one ends up with no
understanding of the cause, and thus no knowledge of how to avoid a
repeat or to fix it. Or, in short, "Grumble, grumble".

OTOH, maybe it was what Alias said - a reboot was needed (except I bet
you rebooted more than once before it went away, right?).

Laptops often have a wireless adapter and an ethernet port. Some also
have a cell phone adapter built in.

My old HP DV9650 Vista laptop will show a yellow flag when it is
connected via wireless and the Ethernet cable is unplugged.
