Win 7 Not showing CPU usage

My computer is hard at work. CPU usage is consistently beteen 60 and 95 percent. It is slowing down the programs I am trying to run. I opened the task maanger under the "processes" tab and the total listed CPU usage comes out to 6% or less. How do I get the task manager to show me what is running?

Use the Resource Monitor instead. You can access it directly or from the Task Manager (click on the Performance tab and then the Resource Monitor ... button at the bottom of the tab).

What is telling you 60-95%?

Have you scanned for malware?
