Why did Win7 ruin Media Player?

R

Roy

Windows 7's version of Windows Media Player sucks. In fact,
every program that relies on that stupid " library" nonsense to find
files sucks. I had my videos sorted into folders; Media Player now
mixes them all together! Every time I add a video I have to update the
libraries or it can't find it. Why can't they at least offer the
OPTION of browsing folders by yourself for the file you want to play?
Do they think I'm retarded?
What did we do to deserve this? Why fix what wasn't broken?

I like Win7 but the media player is bloated, useless crap.

The libraries take a certain amount of time to index new files. Maybe you
just need to wait a little longer. That being said, there are numerous
sites that offer registry hacks to disable the library feature in Win7, just
Google 'disable libraries in windows 7'. I don't know if this would fix
your problem or not, and of course whatever happens if you follow any web
site's advice is completely your own responsibility. Have you tried to
remove your video folders from the library? If you right-click any of the
Library folders in Computer, you can edit the Properties. Removing folders
from the library is one of the options. This may be what you are looking
for, but I don't know how the folder behavior would be affected. Good luck.

Use Media Player Classic, it's designed to keep the look and feel of the
old Windows Media player 6.4.

Good advice. That's what I am doing. In fact I have tried to get Win7
behave as much as possible in the Classic Mode. I had done that with Win
XP too.

Why change something that works? Or is MS trying to fool us into
thinking we are getting something new? They are just making things more
complicated with all those duplicate and library files etc. I mean I
have to go into My Documents within My Documents!

Whose stupid idea was that?!

I have NOT used the new MS mail and never intend to. I use Skype and
Thunderbird instead since I can't have Outlook Express. At least I know
where I am with discreet dedicated programs. How many people use their
digital watches as count-down or count-up or lap timers or as alarms? I
wonder whether they are thinking of getting digital watches to get the
damsels onto the casting couch?

Any news on this score?

LOL, where you been, dude???

MS assumes the world is retarded and tries to re-make it into their
own vision.

Secondly, by adding (bloating) Windows w/ new features that
independent competitors have spent years developing and make their
living from, they can further their self-interests and put competitors
out of business.

Thus, sucking up more of the consumer dollars.

It doesn't have to be BUG-FREE, just work well enough to eliminate the
need to purchase from independent contractors.

DOH!!!!

IMHO,

I don't really care for the libraries crap either. It's supposedly a
visual UI equivalent of a CLI 'path' or 'assign' command that tries to
accomplish somewhat of the advantage of something like BeOS's
relational database file system, or part of what WinFS was supposed to do.

Moving User folders and sub-folders to a different drive is more
tedious and cumbersome now that one has to click through numerous
individual folder property panels, clicking on the 'location' tab, and
specifying the new location.

And just what is *their* own vision? MS r&d is so scattered around
the world and comprises so many diffeent folks with different ideas on
UI design, there can be no 'vision' on MS's part.

Instead, they can simply invest a couple of grand on a new copier
every often, and just copy "Redmond South"...
