What's the cause?

I went shopping, when I came back an hour later my taskbar was on the
left side instead of the bottom and two open windows were half sized.
I check the logs for suspicious logins and nothing.
This is Windows 7 home premium 64 bit on a Compaq Presario CQ50
notebook. I had to manually put the taskbar back, did somebody have to
move this or can it do it on it's own?

No cats, no dogs, no animals, no kids, no cohabitants.

Then you've been hacked unless you did it while sleep walking. I hope
you don't have your bank details, social security number, date of birth,
credit card numbers etc. on your computer.
How is that possible since WIndows 7 is so secure.

I had something similar happen on this Windows 7 home premium 64 bit HP
computer a few weeks ago. A new set of drivers for the inbuilt Nvidia video
controller were downloaded and installed, and the colour scheme and the icon
layout got changed. I sat here and changed everything back to how I wanted
it. A second update was downloaded a few days later, and everything stayed
as it was. Could that have happened while you were out?

I don't see any updates that day. Now I unplug the ethernet cable when
I leave. That should stop them if there is a them.

It's not. Time to go malware fishing, restore an image or reinstall
Windows 7. Have fun.
I guess it's back to Linux.
