Hello, I plan to buy a new laptop within this month , so I wanted to ask what type of laptop that suit for me & what is their minimum spec . Here are software that use : -

1. AutoCAD ( I often use 2D, very rarely use 3D )
2. Sony Vegas
3. Adobe Photoshop,Illustrator,Premiere Pro, Adobe After Effects
4. Medium gaming

*The one that I highlight with the red word is the most often software that I use*

Actually, I'm planning to buy a Lenovo Y50, but many people say that it not really good & have many problem ( but it still caught my attention & I know it a Gaming Laptop).

So, I hope somebody in this forum could help me, Thank You.

Extra: Before this I'm using Lenovo V480 | Win 7Pro 64bit | Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz | 8GB Memory. All the program that I listed above work well ( no buggy or freeze ) , time rendering ( 3d & video) are decent ( not to long,not to fast).

Ok, this is just my opinion.

I would say that you would need as a minimum for a laptop:

  • i7 CPU - Minimum
  • 4Gb Video card, not released more than 12 month ago.(Speed is up to you)
  • 15" screen minimum, but probably a 17" screen.
  • SSD (Size is up to you) primarily for the speed, faster than SSHD
  • 16Gb RAM - From what I remember CAD is a memory hog.
  • Bluray DVD burner - Be able to burn large CAD files to disk.
  • 3 years warranty if your buying a laptop - If your not a tech then this is important. Things seem to magically happen after 12 month with laptops.

All other peripherals are up to you.
The brand is not so important, just the reliability.
So what I would suggest is to go between HP, Dell (Alienware), Lenovo, ASUS and see who has the best priced package given those specs.
But at the end of the day it is about how much you want to spend.
