WD 2TB elements portable hard drive issues

hey all,
first post here. I have been reading these forums all night and still haven't found an answer to my problem yet.
Using a Toshiba laptop i am unable to get windows 7 to even recognise the hard drive. The light comes on but no sounds when plugged into the computer.
The hard drive works fine on my desktop computer which also has windows 7 on it

Have you tried turning off the laptop, connecting the hdd and rebooting?
