Hello.
As the title states I purchased my W7 Home Premium from a PC World store in Merseyside., approximately 3 months ago.

Yesterday it started telling me it wasn't genuine. I tried changing the product key, as I had seen suggested, to no avail. I tried a system restore, but the situation didn't change. By this point I'd got the black screen as well as the bottom right hand corner message.

This morning I noticed the message had gone, so I reset my wallpaper & thought no more of it until I turned the machine on this evening. The message has returned, but my desktop isn't black yet.

Could anyone advise a course of action.
here are some diagnostic bits & pieces, but I don't know what they mean:confused:

I'm surprised that PC World/Curry's would let this happen, or am I?
I've been burned once before by an ebay seller which is why I purchased from PC World.

Any help is greatly appreciated, even if it's only to verify that I've been sold a dud & should take it back.

Oh yeah, the online validation plugin keeps crashing. The one that runs (or doesn't in this case) after installing the Windows activation update.

Okay, Windows has just told me I need to reinstall it, so I guess that's that.

Could be malware Download malwarebytes and run it.

Could also be caused if your system clock is off. Sync your system clock.

Hi Elmer.

Thanks for that. I've bookmarked it in case the same thing happens with the reinstall I did this morning.

There are also some viruses/malware going around telling people their activation is not valid; you might look at this THREAD and the video linked there.

OK, I will do.
Up to now the reinstall is ticking over well.
I'd had numerous problems in the 4 or 5 days prior to the notification, which will hopefully be sorted now.
