Video clips will not edit

I have always been able to edit my MPG video clips from my Sony camera. But
now they will not show up or behave at all in Windows movie maker, nor in
serif Movie Plus. Can anyone suggest what has happened? I use window 7 64
bit

It does two things. When you start the program, it
has an option to show all the CODECs currently installed.
One of the menu items, makes a list available.

And, when you open a movie, it shows the series of
CODECs used to render the movie. Click the buttons
on the bottom left, to try to play the movie. If
both video and audio play, then the needed CODECs are
present.

Perhaps, with that information available, you will
be able to remember which CODEC pack you recently
un-installed.
