OK, so Microsoft is going out of the NNTP business. Why can't I find a
scripting forum?

microsoft.public.inetserver.aspgeneral still exists on
msnews.microsoft.com, and will continue on other sever after Microsoft
shuts theirs down.

As does microsoft.public.scripting.vbscript, where I meant to post this.
But the point is that if Microsoft is going to replace NNTP with forums,
it should provide suitable replacements for all its newsgroups, not just
Windows for Dummies.

Micrsoft want you to use their online forums - no where near as good for
lots of reasons.

Tim is right in his reply that these newsgroups will continue, but just not
on the microsoft newsservers. So provided you use a different newsgroup
provider (say giganews.com or eternal-september.org) then you should still
be able to access all of their newsgroups. The downside is that once
microsoft pull the plug on their newsgroup servers (i.) they won't be
moderating and deleting spam and (ii.) significantly fewer people will be
visiting them (from what I've seen of the ones that microsoft has so far
pulled the plug on).

Hope this helps.

Yes, I have known about the alternate servers for some time. The only
MS.public group I am using at the moment is the VBScript group,
mentioned above, and I reach that on my Charter Usenet server. I am just
bitching on principle. :)

I agree completely with everything you say above--*especially* that
the web-based forums are nowhere near as good and that fewer people
will be visiting the newsgroups. They will continue to exist, but with
far less traffic.

And for anyone who doesn't know where to find them, here are three
free news servers that carry them:

news.eternal-september.com
aioe.org
news.albasani.net
