Is the Virtual Disc Service running when you load services.msc?

That's odd... it can't find the service to start. Can you try running "sfc /scannow" at the command prompt (as an admin) - that should see if you've got any files corrupt or missing.

However, if you're going to format and go x64 it doesn't matter so much :)
