Type won't show

All of a sudden, the words I type in certain places do not show. Facebook, Google....
And...when I backlight something to copy, the backlight does not show and it is only when
I use 'paste' onto a new document that I can see what I have copied.
Some places it works...most others do not. Have cleaned mouse well...
