Type of Hammer?

What type of hammer is best for nailing down Win 7 icons?
I've tried a ball-peen but all it did was crack my monitor. I
imagine a claw hammer would do the same. Would a rubber-
coated mallet used to put on hubcaps be any gentler to my
LCD monitor?

If you mean the desktop, there are freeware programs available to back
up the icon positions; then you can restore them if they get wonky.

But instead, I use Fences from StarDock.com to organize my icons.

Yes; I used EzDesk which is ancient, which worked up to XP (except on
one works PC); it installed and runs on 7, but doesn't seem to do
anything, so I used iconoid (which I'd found for that works PC), which
works fine on 7. There are many others, I think.

That has been mentioned in another thread here, favourably.
