I am a new win7 user on a new dell laptop. When i type or click with my touchpad buttons, the cursor freezes for about 4 seconds. Then it frees up so i can navigate once again.

This may not sound like a big issue, but it really affects the way i work with my PC

I tried control panel -> devices -> mouse -> touchpad -> and was able to stop the cursor from wandering (really makes you crazy trying to click something on the screen if the cursor runs away randomly!) but cant get it to stop the lag after touching the keyboard or the mouse buttons.

Can anyone help with fixes?

Did the laptop come installed with Windows 7?

Dell uses the "Synaptic TouchPad Driver". Have you tried updating the driver?

You can also go to Control Panel and under the Mouse section you can adjust the Synaptic TouchPad settings.
