It takes about 1 minute to get windows 7 to the desktop screen and about a
further minute to receive and send mail. To switch off completely it
normally takes about 15 -20 seconds. Is this about the norm ?

It takes my W7 1 minute to bootup to the desktop and probably 20 seconds
to boot down completely.

I don't use an email client so can't say how long it takes to download
emails.

My XP takes atleast 2 minutes to bootup to the desktop and a minute or
more to boot down completely unless it hangs in which case it can take
10 minutes or more to turn off.
