this device cannot start??

Tonight I opened up my newsreader client, 40tude dialog 2.0, and when I
clicked on a newsgroup, everything above that group also highlighted.
In windows explorer the same thing happened.
So I shut down, restarted. Same thing.
Finally after a few restarts the problem cleared up.
The big main issue now is, my external hard drives refuse to be recognized.
So restarted with the unit with and without power several times.
Nothing.
Also did a system restore.

Device manager reports the drives as "This device cannot start (c0de 10).

Tried updating drivers. Windows says I have the latest driver.

Checked the website for additional information. Nothing of help there.

The external powered device I have is from Thermaltake and is the BlacX
Duet model.

Now how do I get the damn thing back to working properly as it was?

Thermaltake and is the BlacX
Duet
Step one is to make sure that the external PS is connected to the unit,
and getting AC. Next check to see if the PS works. Also try plugging it
in to another USB port, preferably one using a different USB controller.

IF you were using win XP, I'd also recommend removing and re-installing
the microsoft USB drivers after disabling the appropriate USB
controller. I don't know if this would have any beneficial effect using
win 7.

There is a possibility that one of the external hard drives is hanging
things up. I'd try removing them from the BlacX, and see what happens.

Open a .cmd window as admin and run: sfc /scannow

Well apparently I got it back working again.
I pulled the USB plug from the machine and swapped ports with my mouse.

there are two kinds of responses I totally detest!
1) a link to a google search.
why? because you assume my intelligence is extremely lower than yours and
you figure I'm too stupid to do a search.

2) Ones that include links to about.com
why? because about.com information is so blatantly generalized and it's
pathetic. I avooid using about.com for any thing.

BTW, of a few dozen sites that were trying to be helpful in fixing the
problem, not a damn one of them mentioned what may be the most simplest
cure of the problem. That is, removing and reseating the usb cord.
It's like well duhh, if the device isn't properly plugged in, hows it gonna
get a signal?
Magic?

Only two?

Based on your past performance...

Probably because that's the first thing anyone with half a brain would
try.

So I guess we (TINW) mistakenly assumed you had more than half a brain
and had already tried that.

I guess next time we won't give you the benefit of the doubt.

I see both ESATA and USB connectors on that thing. You can only
have one I/O cable connected at a time to those. You can use
ESATA (and leave the USB connector blank), or connect to USB
(and leave the ESATA blank). I could see the device getting
a bit confused, if you cabled up both of them.

Having followed many of you stupid and idiot posts of advice to other
computer users problem, I'd say that's a pretty sound foundation to
start from with you.
