I read a post to this news group and there was a response that mentioned a
Super Admin account in Windows 7. How do you access this Super Admin in
Windows 7 and in Vista? I work in tech support and this would be a valuable
tool to help us in some of our troubleshooting. It's not the same thing as
God Mode is it?

Look under "Administrative Tools" and "Computer Management". You will
see "Local Users and Groups". Under "Users", you'll see the
"Administrator" account and under its right-click "Properties" you
will see that by default "Account is disabled" is checked. Just
uncheck the box and the account becomes visible. This also works with
XP.

Didn't I give you this information before?

It doesn't make a difference if it's Vista or Win 7, because the two O/S
use the same core components of the same O/S. Vista is version 6.0 and
Win 7 is version 6.1 of the same NT based O/S.

You may have given this to me prior, but I guess it got lost in the group
and for some stupid reason don't remember the original post it was under. I
know, my fault. I am going to be taking this to our training department to
see how we can add this to our procedures. We do a lot of troubleshooting
on printer installations, communications, setting folder permissions, SQL
database management, importing and exporting, firewalls and the like for a
program we use at UPS called WorldShip. Most of the troubleshooting issues
we have revolves around simple "how-do-I" questions, but when things go
wrong, we need to make sure that full administrative rights are in effect.
Having this Super Admin will ensure that the caller does in fact have the
correct set of permissions to make changes to their systems.

If you really worked in Tech Support, you'd know that there is *NO*
such thing as a "Super Admin" account in any Windows OS. (Granted, many
of the extremely technically challenged new users refer to the built-in
local Administrator account as such, but that's only their ignorance
speaking.) And yes, as experienced technicians will tell you, using any
account with administrative privileges is sometimes called "god mode."

local Administrator account as such, but that's only their ignorance

now, and you have to know how to do it to achieve it.

Yeah, it's just another way to get to Control Panel. I have it setup,
but I forget to use it 99.9% of the time.

I agree. Calling it God Mode is misleading. I have it configured on my computer too, but I think I have used it only once since I set it up. I guess it’s really there for those who need more control panel options in one place without relying on Windows groupings. I hate Windows category views too.

Me too. I only look at it when something in a newsgroup reminds me that
it's there - but not every time I read about it.

BTW, I didn't call it GodMode. I forgot what *did* call it, and now I
can't even find it to remind myself :)

I could search on the GUID, but I'm too lazy to even find where the GUID
is described.

My newsreader seems to salvage the text and display it. I didn't even
realize the post was HTML...or whatever it is, if not just HTML...

Helroy seems to use Windows Live Mail and to post in HTML.

My other reader, MesNews, also displays it OK.

I thought newsreaders were supposed to gag on HTML.

I looked at the raw source. It looks like it has both the plain text
version and the HTML version. I guess my NRs ignore the HTML and display
the plain text version and yours does otherwise. But that's weird, since
you seem to using WLM too.

I thought newsreaders were supposed to gag on HTML.

I looked at the raw source. It looks like it has both the plain text
version and the HTML version. I guess my NRs ignore the HTML and display
the plain text version and yours does otherwise. But that's weird, since
you seem to using WLM too.
