Strange download to get RealPlayer

I have a Win7 laptop. I had it turned into Win7 from XP via a local
computer store. It has two users, Aurora and Solarguy. Aurora has a pwd,
but Solarguy (SG) does not. That's fine by me. SG is where I spend all
of my time. I needed RealPlayer on SG, so tried to install it there. I
got a msg that I needed higher authority. A dialog came up to logon to
Aurora. It would not accept my pwd for Aurora.

I decided to sign on to Aurora and download RP there. Aurora is
practically barren, but it installed just fine. I went back to SG and
tried again to install RP there. It objected that it is already
installed. RP does work fine under SG, and Aurora.

This all seems a little fruity. What's going on here?

You need an administrator account (or a user with administrator rights)
to install any applications including WP. This being so, if the RP is
installed using another account, it should work for all users on that
machine.

Also, another way to install an application using any user is to
right-click on the downloaded file and then select run as
administrator. you will be prompted to enter your PWD and it should
install normally.

Hope this helps.

SG has limited permissions, which is a Very Good Thing. It protects the
computer from anybody signing on as SG doing unintentional (or even
intentional) damage. Since anyone that boots the laptop will be SG,
anyone could do whatever they wanted to your laptop, including messing
with your files, See below.

By demanding that you sign in as Aurora with a password before
installing a new program, there is a good chance that Aurora knows what
(s)he's doing and won't install evil stuff.

Anything Aurora installs will run for any user by default, but you could
prevent any other user from running some selected program(s). You can
also control access to files and folders. This is a good feature if you
have several users (or a universal user like SG).

Of course, if you pass Aurora's password around, all bets are off.
