I like many others can not get sound on win7 ultimate, its an Asus P5SD2-VM onboard sound system again like many others.
If I buy a sound card would that solve the problem and if it will how do I disable the onboard sound

The onboard sound could already be disabled, thus causing your issue. Continuously press delete while powering on the machine until the bios is shown. Then look for the setting to enable onboard audio or similar. Save the settings.
Boot to Windows and install the latest driver from here:
