Hey everybody, I've only just joined this forum in search of some much needed help.

I am in the process of buying a new PC and want Windows 7 64-bit. I looked into the versions and realised I would need the Professional version in order to run a lot of my older XP software, so I went in search of the best price I could find, and I came across this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Microsoft-W...2NGQLIE/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&n=300435&s=software

Now, seen as it's a new PC i'll need a full version (not an upgrade) and I was wondering if this would full-fill this requirement?

Thanks for the help everybody!

Hi bobsy852 & welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Your link shows the OEM version of Windows 7 Professional, 64 bit, this will be one DVD to install to one PC.

thanks for the welcome! :)
Will it have the SP1 installed? (does that really matter if it hasn't? i.e, can't I just download that for free from Microsoft update?)

There is no SP1 for any version of Windows 7 yet and if you purchase from your link you will be getting the complete Windows 7 Professional :)

yea, these are the specs:

Motherboard: Intel Socket 775 64-bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz (4 x 2.33GHz Cores) 64-bit Socket 775
Memory: 8GB DDR2 (800MHz)
Graphics: 1GB nVidia GeForce GT220 PCI-Express 16x
Optical: Sony S-ATA Dual Layer DVD+/-RW
Hard drive: Internal 1TB (1000GB) S-ATA2
Internal Multi-Function Card Reader
Sound Card: 5.1 Premium Audio
LAN: Realtek 10/100 Ethernet
USB: 4 x rear USB 2.0 ports (plus 2 x front USB)
I was just about to ask, do you know if it would be possible to simply upgrade the processor on this PC (for example remove the Q8200 and install a Intel Q9450 for example? (or even an i5?)

The Q9450 will work but the i5's use a different socket design

Well I really need to backup and ask which motherboard you have before I answer for sure. It depends on a few variables.

Intel Socket 775 64-bit
would need the Motherboard part No to be able to answer on CPU upgrade.

Clean Install - drop the RAM down to 2GB use just Motherboard graphics reinstall the Graphics Card after Windows 7 is loaded and go to nVidia site for the latest drivers, also don't have any USBs plugged in at time of Windows 7 install.

Virtually all XP programs will run on Windows 7. I have had just a few issues of XP programs not running on Win7

I think you will find the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 2.33GHz is quite good anyway Rob, spec >

- Quad Core Technology
- 45nm-process Technology with various Core technology improvements
- 2.33GHz clock speed (7.0x Multiplier)
- 4MB L2 Cache
- Intel Speedstep Technology
- EM64T 64-Bit Technology
- Execute Disable Bit
- Cooler running technology, less heat and less noise!

thanks Veedaz! I hope so! I'm always on the look out for an upgrade option though! ;)
Think those specs should last me a while though on my new PC, will certinally be a step up from my Pemtium 4 HT, 3Gb Dell!

Just can't wait for it to be delivered now!

Yes Veedaz, they were good in their day (I still have two) but they don't even come close to matching dual core, let alone quad.
