You can improve the speed of your Win7, if you free up the disk space:
Click 'start' - all programs - accessories - system tools - disk cleanup.
And check the drive with virus removal tools.

anything you downloaded can be set to run manuelly by going into its settings and unchecking the run at start up. in system configuration you can select what you want to run at start up, most windows feature cant be selected to not start up.
