Hi..

I made up Desktop Shortcuts for Shutdown and ReBoot

I always thought clicking on Start to Shutdown was silly!! :)

Shutdown command: C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -s -t 05

Re-Boot command: C:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -r -t 03

FYI

I do that for people that can't remember Alt+F4.

If I'd have only known how easy this actually could be.
Years ago I purchased an application which would allow me to create a
shortcut on my desktop for a Force shutdown and a Force restart.

Alt+F4 works as long as the window for an app doesn't have focus; else,
you shutdown just that app.

There has been a means of shutting down or rebooting using a command
within Windows since the 95 version. That you just discovered the use
of console-mode apps doesn't make new the old trick.

Which begs the question of WHERE the OP discovered the "new" old trick.
This isn't some esoteric solution rarely commented upon.

Who the hell cares where he found it. He shared it and in doing so
hurt no one.

No one but you seems to have "proposed that it was his discovery".

He didn't say that he recently discovered the commands. In fact, he
didn't even say that he discovered them. He said only that he made up
shortcuts to them. *Read* his post this time.

So this has become the "what I found today" diary entry newsgroup. Oh
joy.

Well, that is what technical USENET newsgroups are for: technical
things.

Look elsewhere for the bitch-and-whine newsgroups you seem to
want, or smarten up. The latter is preferable, but it is your choice.

Sincerely,
