restore points

Some updates delete all old restore points when they install.

You can't "repair" deleted restore points.

No, meant repair the facility BUT just checked and now there is two - must

I know most updates will create a point, but I'm yet to see one that deleted
any old ones. I've got RP's all the way back to late October on my XP
system, and back to January 1st on Win7 (limited by the space restrictions I
imposed). Most of them are "Critical Update" types.

Might it depend on how much space is allocated as to when older restore
points are deleted

When its set to only use 4 GBs or less, Do you know what yours is set as?

That's what I said- I have imposed limitations on my Win7 box as to how much
space to use for SR. My XP box has a much larger HDD, so I left it at
default.

To repair any corruption in restore points, turn System Restore off, reboot,
then you can turn it back on.

because I stopped using System Restore. Every update that can't be removed

Would that include Defender updates? I don't believe they can be removed,
nor have they removed any of my restore points. Since it hasn't happened to
me (and I've used SR since Windows ME), I'd have to see some verified proof
of it happening.

I did a quick search on Google and Microsoft Support and didn't come up with
this reason for losing a point. The closest thing I saw to it was if a large
number of updates were installed at one time or a suite product like Office
was installed, older points were removed because the restore point created
by these scenarios would be so large that older ones were removed to make
room for the new ones. I would imagine that a system that had it's allocated
SR memory reduced to, say, 4 or 5GB, recent points would be removed because
of the size of the new one and the allocation size restraints on the system.

I'm not having a problem with it. I was just trying to get some
clarification of an earlier post.

Well, no, actually I don't.

I don't cache where I can. Like in the Firefox browser, with such high
speed Internet, what's the point? Too much overhead redundancy, imho.
