remove "your PC is running too slow" malware virus and "make facebook run faster"

I know, I know, this isn't an anti-virus newsgroup, but that group was
dead.

How do I get rid of the box in google-chrome that says "Your PC is
running too slow" and "fix registry errors" and "make facebook run
faster" ?

We've clicked on those messages before and had major trouble in the
past. It's obviously a trick to try to get people to buy something
again.

First you get several anti-virus/malware programs. Here's a few to start
with:

Free:
Spybot Search & Destroy: http://www.tucows.com/preview/310138
Malware Bytes Antimalware: http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Payware (and worth every penny IMO)
Kapersky: http://www.kaspersky.ca/products-services
Vipre: http://www.sunbeltsoftware.com/
Eset: http://www.eset.com/us/

Second, disconnect from the 'net, and run those programs one at a time.
This should work. If it doesn't, report back, and hope someone here may
know a remedy specific to your problem.

Third, you install a good security suite, and pay to keep it up to date.
I use Vipre, but the other two also have very good reputations. You pay
to have your car serviced, right? So you shouldn't balk at paying to
keep your computer secure. Set your selection to scan the computer at
regular intervals, at least 2x a week.

Fourth, you update the freeware and run it every week or two.

Fifth, you develop a mild case of paranoia. ;-)

If the machine is so compromised a malware checker is impossible to
install, this is very valuable:
