reader rabbit on netbook

bought "reader rabbit: learn to read with phonics" for a lad with a
netbook (no dvd player) and find I cannot get it to run. I have tried:

a) installing the files from the cd and running install

b) using poweriso to mount and run the program.

in either case, the program installs but when I try to start the game, it
requests that the cd be put into the cd-rom drive.

poweriso indicates it is running a virtual drive at d:\ but RR doesn't
acknowledge that.

the operating system is Windows 7 Starter on a Samsung netbook.

I think I may have fixed the problem, though not quite sure how. I think
the trick is, RR has to believe the cdrom is inserted even after you
install the software.

poweriso comes to the rescue and allows you to mount the usb drive as a
'virtual drive' which looks like a cdrom to RR. it is now happy.

pretty cumbersome and I will have to write out simple instructions for
the parents.

Instead of writing instructions which could easily be lost or forgotten.
Why not write a batch file to do what's necessary, then change the
icon to run the batch file instead?

That's a pretty common form of copy protection.

Windows Flight Simulator is one example, although for that there was a
patch available to let it run without the disc.
