Re-Install for 64 Bit

I have just purchsed a Toshiba Satellite 500 which will run 64 bit windows 7 and has 8 G RAM. The shop had already installed 32 bit windows 7 and when I got home and started using it I realised it was 32 bit. I want to move to 64 bit - how do I do that please?
I have only downloaded updates for the windows programmes and security software so not too fussed about losing everything to start afresh with 64 bit system. But perhaps I need to save what has been done so far? Not sure if it worth it if it needs updating in 64 bit mode anyway?
Any advice on how to make a fresh start please?

First of all, you'll have to do a clean fresh install. It is not possible to do an "upgrade" install of 64-bit over 32-bit.

Do you have the 64-bit install disc? What version of Windows 7 is installed on you system? Do you have the MS Genuine Windows 7 product key?

You will need to download and save all the latest 64-bit drivers for your Toshiba Satellite 500 notebook. Save them on a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW disc.

Which version of the 500 series do you have... A, L, or P?

I had guessed from Windows sites that 'clean install' would be needed but I am unsure how to do that safely hence my question on this forum.

Machine is P500/1XF Part Number PSPGSA-1XF003.

Windows is 7 Home premium version 6.1.7600 build 7600.

Machine came with pre-installed software and genuine windows product key is on the bottom of the machine. I have recorded it as I understand that I will need that to activate the windows software. I have no discs for the windows software.

I had done a complete backup to the installed D Drive (everything else is on the C drive) but in case this is wiped by the clean install I am now doing a complete back up to an external hard drive.

Not sure what is meant by 'save all the 64 bit drivers' because the machine is running 32 bit so presumably all the drivers in use are 32 bit?

Sorry for the late response, been watching Big Monday College Basketball.

Download the 64-bit drivers for your particular model of notebook and then save them somewhere where the clean install won't wipe them.
