Re-addressing messages

F

FiOS-Dave

I had trouble with my old e-mail account not sending messages.
(see earlier thread) I finally cured the problem by creating a new account.
I still have 65 messages sitting in the older Outbox waiting to be sent.
What I need is a way to re-address all 65 outgoing messages in my old
account in bulk!
I've done it singly and it works, but I don't want to have to call in each
message individually to re-address them.

Does anyone have an elegant solution? Even a quick and dirty one is
acceptable!

1. You could add the message-ID to the above to help people find the
other thread :).

2. Which e-mail program? They don't all have the same capabilities.

If you can save the messages in a readable format, maybe you can run a
batch command to alter the address lines and then reimport the
messages.

Perhaps you could send them to a forwarding service that translates the
original address to the new address.

BTW, my mail program has a filtering capability. Among its
possibilities are to select mail based on the addressee (To:) and
forward it to another destination...

So set up an appropriate filter and run it on the the folder containing
the letters in question. In my case, I'd probably have to copy them
from Drafts to a new folder made for the occasion so that I wouldn't
inadvertently change other e-mails.

Windows Live Mail.

Hire a schoolboy to do it.

Thanks Char and Gene,
I have located where the Outbox mail is stored:
C:\Users\Daddy\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail\mailname 40\Sent
Items
and can access the .EML files using Notepad, etc.
If I edit the file and change the FROM: address, then go back into WLM and
send it,
it works.
This leaves me needing either a macro or a looping program, as Gene
suggested.
I can process ALL the messages in the Outbox, since they can all be coming
from
the new account I created.
There must be a program available that can do that, so I am off to
Bing/Google for it!
Thanks, so far and if this conjures up any other ideas please let me know!

I found a good batch modifying program called (guess what) BFM.ZIP - Batch
Modifying Program.
It took me all of about 6 minutes to use it to modify the FROM: address on
all 65 messages.
Unfortunately, this does not cause WLM to send them using that FROM:
address.
There must be another location that is storing the account information
because I see no
other reference to it in the .EML files.
Almost ready to give up and modify them one at a time...

Well, at least you had some practice and also found a useful program
:)

Like you, I would have expected that to work.

My next (useless) idea is to put in a Reply to: address, but as you can
guess by the parentheses, I can't think why that would work.

I didn't realize you wanted to change the From: address, or my filter
suggestion would have been different. Actually, it would've been
non-existent, since my program has no option to change the sending
account.

I suspect that there may be a table of accounts somewhere, and
the "Account" column in WLM has a flag.
It's getting to deep for me, so I will bite the bullet and individually
modify as few of the 65 messages as I can get away with...

Thanks again to all , and as you said, Gene, I did find a new program that
is useful!
