Random black rectangles appear

Have Vaio mode VPCCW21FX running Windows 7. After 2 years it started randomly displaying black rectangles on the screen. Temporary fixes have included Clearing Internet Cache, running Microsoft Security Scan and Powering off and back on. Also used CCLeaner and MalewareBytes. Have also updated video driver from Sony Support.

Any ideas ?

My first inclination would be hardware failure. I suspect the video screen is going bad.

Yep, hardware failure would be my thoughts too. Do you get any glitching or bright coloured lines appearing?

Sometimes overheating can cause the same problem - are your fans/airflow ports clean?
