I want to upgrade on memory but unsure the best way forward. Currently have 4 gb DDR3 1333 mhz (V-data). Can I add to this from a diffrent brand (corsiar)? or is it better to completely start again? and if so will i benifit getting a fast memory ie 1600 mhz?

My PC with take up tp 16GB.

Do I put more GB with cheaper RAM or have less but pay more?

It's generally considered the most reliable to keep ram brand and clock speeds matched.

Memory timings have an effect as well.

In different banks you should be fine with a different brand but it is best to stay with the 1333mHz

I would HIGHLY recommend that you use the same brand and series of RAM.

Same clock speed, timings, etc.

I have 6GB of Mushkin Enhanced Blackline RAM and it's all matched. Things run better that way. Don't use cheap RAM at all, you won't be happy with it.

If your motherboard supports the 1600MHz clock speed on the RAM you can use it, but don't mix two different speeds because the motherboard will default to the lowest clock speed so both will work.

I cannot tell you how much top-grade RAM makes a difference.

When I had Kingston and Mushkin Enhanced mixed on the motherboard I had to take out one brand or the other to do a new install of the OS. It would not install with two brands mixed.

I have never heard of V-Data RAM, are you sure it isn't A-Data's V-Data series?

It says V data on the memory, I did check A data website to buy some more but the brand v data did not seem to exist. I have also tried to google it but still nothing.

it will be about 120% as fast as it is now.

In any application as it would affect the memory operation as a whole.

If 1600 is only greater than 1333 by a 3% difference, I'd say check the math skills for a possible tweaking needed.

It's a 16.7% difference in speed, or a 20.03% increase in speed... rounded off equals a 20% increase in speed.

If one wants to know the difference in speed than it is done like this: 1333 divided by 1600 = 0.833125. Then subtract 1 from 0.833125 and the reciprocal is 16.6875 which is the speed difference.

For the increase in speed then you divide 1600 by 1333 = 1.2003 or a 20.03% increase.

1333 x 1.2003 = 1599.9999 or 1600

BTW, years ago, before I became sick, I could pass the test on tomorrows lesson for the first hour, but the second hour was where things got fuzzy. Very much so! 1.5 ounces of beer every 60 seconds, even for a 215 pounder (at that time) adds up fast.
