Quick Launch disappears

Have Quick Launch enabled on Win 7 Home premium as I like it over the
pin-to taskbar.

Every now and again during a shut down/reboot, could be twice in one day
or once a fortnight, it will disappear. Will go to taskbar properties
and it is missing from the toolbar tab. I then have to open a new
toolbar and select the Quick Launch folder and arrange the icons all
over again... rather annoying.

Is there a registry setting I can save to a .reg file that will enable
Quick Launch and preferred icon arrangement for the next time it happens?

I have never used Quick Launch. Instead, I create my own custom toolbar.
All you have to do is create an empty folder then select it with the
"Toolbars>New toolbar..." option. Any shortcuts entered in the folder
will show up in the toolbar, and can be arranged in any order. Special
icons can be assigned, if desired. My custom toolbar uses the "d:\toolbar"
folder. This has the advantage of removing it from the "Users" tree.

For a start, not all programs will pin to the taskbar. Plus Quick Launch
looks tidier to me, probably from using it since 2001.

Worth a try, but if it is a taskbar setting being altered it might still
do it.

Time will tell.

Thanks.

It depends on what you call "programs." Any true executable (.exe) can
be pinned, but scripts, batch files, and data files (like .txt) cannot.
They all require a hosting executable. But there is a way to work around
this to pin specific non-executables. You have to create a shortcut to
the appropriate host executable with the target file in the command line.
For example, to pin "d:\mylist.txt" to the taskbar, create a shortcut to

%windir%\system32\notepad.exe d:\mylist.txt

or to pin a VBS script, create a shortcut to

%windir%\system32\wscript.exe d:\myscript.vbs

Either shortcut can be named anything you want, given any icon you
choose, and pinned to the Taskbar or Start menu.

Total shot in the dark here, but is the Taskbar locked? If not, try that.

It is when it shows, when it disappears there is no Quick Launch to check.

Right click on continuum40.exe and select "Create shortcut." Then right
click on the shortcut and pin it to the taskbar.
Aye. But I don't like the pin to icons, I prefer QL.
