I hit an unknown button an found a long list of "netuser.dat" files going
back to 2/14/2010. Are these files of any use?

Run CCleaner. Removes leftover stuff. (Free, just search for it).

Netuser.dat or NTUSER.DAT ?

If the latter, are you positive they are not ntuser.dat.log* files, or similar named files with a *.BLF or REGTRANS-MS File
extentions ?

How often or how many times has Windows Repair been run ?

My mistake - it's ntuser. I have never done a Windows Repair.
Extensions are BLF, REGTRANS-MS.

The regtrans-ms files are linked to the NTuser.dat file and contain information pointing to the registry hive. They also are
related to Common Log File System (CLFS) transaction logs according to KB948252.

Thanks but that doesn't answer the question as to whether it's necessary to
keep them.
