problems after sleep PS/2 keyboard doesnt work

Hi
i have windows 7 64 bit Ultimate in a desktop PC MSI motherboard.

after sleep mode my PS2 keyboard doesnt work !

although i can acttally use it to exit sleep. wierd

also want to mention that after sleep the keyboard
doesnt even show up in device manager.

ive triad to scan for new hardware - no good.
i tried do uninstall reboot then install - no good

the mouse is wireless USB and is fine

yea i could do a USB keyboard but i shouldnt have to.
no problems in XP btw same setup in a different drive.

BIOS settings and or BIOS revision is usually involved. A BIOS update
may be needed.
BIOS "Legacy" support settings may need to be enabled.
You can also install (reinstall) the keyboard drivers in windows.
Just because it doesn't scan does not prevent you from manually
installing or reinstalling a driver.
You did not mention what make/model of keyboard.

It's remotely possible that the keyboard is actually the culprit.

When the OP writes it is a PS/2 keyboard, I'm assuming it is an IBM/Lexmark
Model M. I use a 1993 Model M on my Win-7 64 bit Pro. But I don't use sleep
mode. I only have the screen turn off. Programs running in the background
keep the PC from going to sleep.

How does that answer my question? No one said anything about an IBM
PS/2 computer. It's no longer 1984. These days, when people talk about
PS/2 keyboards (and mice), it's a safe bet they mean PS/2 compatible.

Guess what? I just turned my keyboard over to take a look at the info
printed on the label underneath and it turns out I'm using an IBM
Model M!

I guess that means I must be using an original IBM PS/2 computer!

Or no, it just means I'm using an old keyboard. I bought 11 of these
at a surplus store for $10 with the assumption that not all of them
would work. So far, it's 7-8 years later and the first two I put into
service are still working perfectly. I don't know what would kill
these heavy beasts. Fire, perhaps, but not much else.

And that observation:

"no problems in XP btw"

makes it quite hard to construct a theory for you. If
you saw failures in every OS, maybe it would be easier to
understand.

On my current computer, my keyboard is likely to be recognized
by the fact its passed as an ACPI object by the BIOS. So it
would be noted in a BIOS table, and passed to the OS. Perhaps
if the BIOS did something different while in sleep mode, that
would result in the OS not recognizing the keyboard. You would
need to use a utility, something like the free Everest Home Edition,
and look through the devices listed in there, to see if the ACPI
object for the keyboard was present or not. Based on seeing
that on my current computer, perhaps scanning for new hardware
wouldn't conclude anything was there either.

Both my Windows 7 laptop, and this WinXP desktop computer, use
an entry of PNP0303 for the keyboard. So they may be using the
same mechanism for handling plug and play.

Same Issue as OP, any further ideas?

HI all, I have the same issue as the original poster. Just moved to Win7 Ultimate from XP. ECS IC-780 motherboard. Moved the (generic) PS2 compatible keyboard AND PS2 compatible mouse (MS Intellimouse) to new computer. When it goes to sleep and reawakens, neither keyboard nor mouse works, and i have to hold the power button for 4 sec (yes this is set in the AMD bios) to do a hard shutdown. When it reboots everything is fine.
Checked bios settings, don't see any issues there, solution so far is to disable sleep.
Any new discoveries on this?
