Problem with MSN being slow?

Hello all. I installed Windows Seven 64 Build 7600 yesterday to try it out. Everything runs very smoothly with the exception of Windows Live Messenger.

The problem I'm having is that it runs very slow. When someone talks to me and I switch to the chat window, it'll freeze for 1 sec before it shows up everything correctly and I can write anything. Same happens if I try to start a conversation, the chat screen that comes up will first "freeze" for 1 second.

I know it's not much, but it's really annoying and I cant figure out why this happens. I did a clean install yesterday and it fixed the problem during that session, but it's happening again today after the reboot. Any suggestions? :S Thank you.

Did anything change after you rebooted your PC for the first time (for example, the installation of a software firewall or AV suite)? It sounds more like a software conflict than another issue.

im running a Core i5 2gb system. 32bit Win7.

Sometimes their servers get very overloaded. It's this way with Hotmail at times, too, there has been times when I couldn't sign in to get to my emails. I once inquired of Microsoft about this issue and the response was the department that is over the Windows Live products is understaffed. All of these services is under the same roof, with only a handful of people to run it. That may have a lot to do with your problem, it's probably not your OS.

yer, this sounds like something they would tell you. lols.

but what else can it be? my Windows 7 is completly fresh, no malware, no virus, no firewalls. and messenger just hangs for no reason.

and ill be typing a message, and the letters stop appearing for like 4 seconds, and then they are displayed, but like delayed. its real shit. i use msn for work so i cant have this crap going on .

im temped to reinstall xp on this comp and see if its still doing it. i would put my money on it being fine.

ive gone through all the "help" that microsoft "support" centre suggests, n no change.

I was just on there with someone and the messenger would sometimes not respond quickly. It has done that on and off ever since I've been using it. Too, you have to consider that it's free, it's not like a paid one. What you can do to try it elsewhere, if you want to make sure it's not your computer. If you have access to another computer (friend, family, library), try it out that way. But I'm telling you from experience, the system slows a lot.

If you really feel that it's the program itself and not the internet or your computer you could try a program like Pidgin. It's free and can connect to Windows Live (as well as many other IM providers like Yahoo and ICQ) and you can see if this pausing still occurs which would either rule out or verify a problem with Live Messenger itself

I'll try it out. I don't have this problem with Yahoo when chatting. No slowdowns at all that's noticeable. But I don't chat on a daily basis, mabye once or twice a month. I much prefer using my cell phone when possible, as long as I trust who I'm talking to.

Sorry to bring up such an old topic but i notice this thread isnt solved and i am getting the same problem.. words dont appear when i type them and then they suddenly all appear at once a few seconds later.

I notice it pauses exceptionally when i double click a contact to initiate a conversation.

I have a several second delay when opening or switching to a new chat window - the chat window does not appear for a few seconds, then appears as a blank white box (no pictures, no frames, nothing) for a few more. I think this is the same issue as described by the OP. I run Win7 Enterprise 64bit, 2.5 core 2 duo, 4gb ram.

I was also having the same issues Kamegatta had with Chrome, which sadly forced me to switch back to Firefox (neither IE nor Firefox has the delay while typing problem Chrome did).

Just to be clear, it sounds like OP Paisa was describing a problem after being logged in, as opposed to a problem trying to login. =)

Once again, I'll state that this is an MSN problem. Everytime I use the chat session option, there is times when the system hangs. For example, I've typed in messages and it took almost five minutes for it to get to the other person on one occasion. The same with me receiving messages, it is slow. It's not my computers, when I use Yahoo Messenger, the messages goes back & forth smoothly. Microsoft apparently runs Windows Live on a strict budget and doesn't want to upgrade their servers, or fix whatever is causing the problem. I've also had wait times with Hotmail (all of the Windows Live services are under the same roof) that were long, and on two occasions, I was asked to try back later. Fortunately, I don't have to use the Messenger services often. If I did, I'd use Yahoo or another one that gives faster service, as long as who is wanting to chat agrees to do so.
