I have windows 7 home premium 32 bit installed. I want to use the 64 bit but even when i reboot I cannot get the clean/custom option.
It is set to boot from disk in Bios.

Is there something else I should check?

My computer is capable of handling 64 bit.

Bluegayle - Welcome to the Windows 7 Forum website! :ciao:

Hopefully we'll be able to help.

1. Set your BIOS to have the DVD drive as the first boot-up drive.

2. Put the install disc in your DVD drive and reboot.

3. You'll see a message after the POST is done: "Press any key to boot from CD/DVD drive." Be sure to do that within 5 seconds. The install should then begin.

4. You'll come to a screen after a couple of preliminary screens where you're given the option to "Upgrade" or "Custom Install" Choose "Custom Install".

5. Then you'll come to a screen showing the hard drive and any partitions on it. Delete the partition with the current version of Windows 7 32 bit on it and then create a new partition.

6. Continue with your install and you should be good to go.

THanks for responding but that seems to be the problem.
I do all that and still not getting the option to
custom install.

Is there any other setting in Bios that I should be checking?

I put in the 64 bit disk. restart computer and as soon as it says hit any key
that is what I do.
It will say loading files then goes to a screen that looks like my windows desktop background without anything on it.
It stays there until I remove disk and restart.
Then just goes back to normal.
Strange but true.
One day I just might get this straightened out.

How long does it stay there at that screen?

What type, brand and model of computer do you have?

There should not be any other settings to change in the BIOS. At least none that I can think of at this late hour. :)

I haven't timed how long screen stays. Can it take a fair while. Is there a max time
I should maybe wait? Really appreciate you helping out here.

Veedaz, If you mean physically remove 2 gb I don't think I can without
possibly breaking something else.

Appreciate you helping though. If nothing else works I may see if I can
get my processor to someone for help. Trying to avoid the hassle and money that's all.

What brand of computer? What brand and model of motherboard?

Those are the two most important for the moment.

Update: Sorry pretty sure this is correct: M3A78-CM

Should be about no more than 3-4 minutes.

Well it could have been I turned on "The Ten Commandments" on tv or the fact that i used some patience and waited the whole 2 or 3 minutes this time:

But I am back and running my 64 bit and happy.

Thank you for all your help and patience with me.

Happy Easter.....

Probably a lot more of the latter rather than the former, to be sure. Although Charlton Heston can do some unique things!

I'm glad you got it working, sometimes patience is a virtue!

Just make sure that you have installed all the latest Windows 7 64 bit drivers to ensure that everything works to its maximum potential.
