Problem when opening Windows Live Mail

I

Ivan

I am unable to open Windows Live Mail if I already have any other program
running, when it starts up the 'From, Subject, Date' line is replaced by a
black bar with the little blue wheel endlessly spinning, when I exit, it
tells me that is it that it is looking for a solution to the problem and
that's it, however if I shut down any other programmes which are open such
as VLC, Speech etc before I attempt to open it, then it comes to life
straightaway, usually with just a brief flash of the aforementioned black
bar.. not the end of the world I know, but I would appreciate being able to
fire up WLM without having to shut down any existing programs.. TIA.

Hard to say without knowing details like what type of a system is this and
how much memory this install of Win 7 is running on. If this is Win 7
running on a slower box like an older laptop with limited physical RAM and
system RAM allocated to video ram it could be one cause. If an app behaves
like this, it's often an indication of low system resources and the kernel
is paging out large blocks of virtual memory. What's the memory footprint
of the other processes and apps? (Task Manager...looking under Processes
and Performance tabs ) Have you tried repairing the WLM install? (Control
Panel / Uninstall a Program / Windows Live Essentials / Unistall or Change
/ Repair)

It's an Intel 3.2 GHz dual core processor with 2 GB of RAM, W7+WLM is also
installed on another smaller drive (on top of Vista) and there isn't any
problem with that, you can see by a previous post of mine that WLM has given
me some grief in the past, mainly in the respect of getting the layout as
close as I can to my original OE mail/news client (which I have to say I
much prefered) although I have now managed to configure it a lot more to my
liking since then and don't particularly want to lose everything again if I
can possibly help it.

Hi, Ivan.

I've read thousands of messages in the Microsoft WLM NG and never heard of
this kind of problem. But that NG is where the WLM gurus hang out. You
might give them a try:

Thanks everyone, I went down the suggested route of (Control Panel /
Uninstall a Program / Windows Live Essentials / Uninstall or Change/
Repair) which appears to have cured the problem, there is still a brief
snatch of the black bar, but other than that everything now fires up okay.
