printing files

repeatedly printing about 50 or so files and the default printer has
changed. How do I change the printer on all the files at the same time?
TIA

It is my understanding that printing defaults are not set at the document
level. Just go into Devices and Printers and set your new printer to be the
default.

sorry, a misunderstanding. The printer has been changed as you say and for
all new documents all is fine. But for the old documents the old printer
invokes. If the old doc is changed slightly then it will remember the new
printer. Is there a way to change the old printer to the new one on all the
fifty or so documents without altering any of them?
TIA

Sounds like you have a program (which you didn't specify) which ignores the
system-wide setting in favor of its own idea about the default printer.

You need to find out how that program sets up where to print.

The programme is Windows Publisher 2007 and the files are envelopes which
have all been originally compiled on the old printer.

What about removing the old printer, even temporarily, and printing
each of the documents once? Since the old printer won't be available,
Pub will either have to use the new default printer or it will pop up
a dialog asking which printer to use, right? From what you're saying,
once you get it to print with the new printer, the files will be
automagically updated to reflect the new printer.

The only part that confuses me is that I have a lot of MS Pub files
here, and no matter what, when I try to print any of them, I can
easily specify which printer to use. I don't know why you can't do the
same. It's almost like you're using the Print button on the toolbar
rather than the Print command in the File menu.

yes I always use the toolbar button unless I need something different -
envelopes never change.
I will disconnect/uninstall the other printer and if that works I'm
laughing - thanks to all

Yes, but in this case you *do* need something different! You want to
use an entirely different printer. Therefore, you should be using the
File/Print menu and not the toolbar button. The toolbar button uses
the default printer while the File/Print menu item asks you which
printer and settings you want to use.

I would also try the File/Print menu item before uninstalling the old
printer. :)

Excellent call!

I never would have thought of that. I am so out of using print buttons -
for the above reason and for other reasons as well - that I have pretty
much forgotten that they exist :)

Hey, I'm still in the "taking a wild stab" phase until I hear
otherwise. :)

Well, maybe your "wild stab" is wrong, but it looks good to me!
