PDF reader

After much difficulty but successfully following tech support instructions
repairing files, etc., I find the default PDF reader now shows the pages but
the functions which usually show to the left where each page can be selected
individually is not there. I ask here because I am so frustrated for not
being able to understand the people who were supposed to help me. I had to
ask over and over to repeat so finally gave up.

If you really want to get help
you will have to mention what your default PDF reader is.

In the toolbar, click on View and look for something like "Page thumbnails"
or "Page index" (assuming you're using something like Adobe Reader or
PDF-Xchange).

I am not sure what you mean by 'the default PDF reader'. Adobe are
now on version 11 (Adobe Reader XI), which is a free download. I
won't give you the link as the US site may be different. I suggest
you Google for it and explore the free download options.

Whatever PDF Reader you are using, I recommend that you switch to the
free Foxit Reader. Get it at
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/Secure_PDF_Reader/

In my view, it's the best PDF Reader there is.

I liked Foxit OK, but after so many years of bloating my hard drive with
Acrobat Reader, I stumbled across PDF-Xchange a few years back, and have
been with it ever since
<http://www.tracker-software.com/product/pdf-xchange-viewer>. (I was a
little put off by the "tracker software", but it isn't.) It has a very
similar look to AR, but with a lot more options, and nowhere near the bloat.

I'm afraid I don't speak Aspie. Can you translate to Normal?

Ray, you have to tell us which PDF reader you are asking about.

+1

I agree, it has also a nice OCR tool included and several retouching
items, all configurable

Ray, you have to tell us which PDF reader you are asking about.

It's Adobe which I have kept up to date. Somehow the Remote Service at HP
fouled up a lot of my programs and functions. I had to reinstall several.

It helps if you can identify the application.

Taking screen shots, is going to be a challenge.

And as usual, a recipe page makes it all seem easy.

If you need to describe a problem, it helps if you can take
a screen shot, and post it to a photo sharing site. Then
post a link to what shows on your screen, like this.

Windows 8 has a built-in PDF reader, in metro. And
the photos here show the usual, decoration free interface.

You may want to take Ken's advice and use Foxit.

I have never had a problem with it.

If it works out for you, then uninstall Adobe
