Partition tables: UEFI GPT?

I have a Samsung NC110 netbook running Windows 7 starter.

Anyone know how to check if the drive's partition table is the old BIOS
form or the new UEFI 'GPT' form, please?

A GPT should have a "protective MBR". Perhaps that would
hint at the presence of GPT, even if you had no GPT specific
tools.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table

"Legacy MBR (LBA 0)

A single partition type of 0xEE, encompassing the entire GPT
drive, is indicated and identifies it as GPT."

Download this, "Run as administrator", and check for a single partition
in the zeroth slot labeled as type 0xEE.

ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/tools/pq/utilities/PTEDIT32.zip

If you don't run PTEDIT32.exe as administrator, it'll return "error 5".

EaseUS Partition Manager tells you at the top of its main workscreen,
where mine says "Disk 1 (MBR).

Once you get to the site, you have to track down how to download the
free version :)

Open diskmgmt.msc.

On the left side of the graphical drive display, click the drive you
wish to check; e.g. Disk 0. Then right-click, choose properties, then
select the Volumes tab. The partition style should be listed there.

Aha! I only clicked on the partition icons in the right side of the
graphical drive display. I didn't think of clicking on the *drive* icon
just to the left of those.

Thanks for the lesson. Now I have to try to remember it :)

Many thanks for all replies; much appreciated...

The partition style should be listed there.
Bingo! I would never have found that without your help! Many thanks.

It says "Partition Style: Master Boot Record (MBR)"

- which I assume means the drive has a normal partion table rather than
GPT partitioning.

What does it show if the drive is GPT?

Hi, Maurice.

Using 6U's tip, my only GPT disk (a 3 GB USB 3.0 Seagate GoFlex Desk) shows:
Partition Style: GUID Partition Table (GPT)
