outline of box moves

All of a sudden when I drag a box, only the outline moves until I let up on
the mouse key. I did not change anything. I want the box, not it's
outline, to move. I wonder why it changed.

You didn't mention which OS you are using, but it is basically the same for
most
versions. Either you accidently changed a setting, or a new piece of
software did.
Go to Control Panel/Performance Information & Tools/Adjust Visual Effects
and either select Let Windows Choose, or another option.
You can choose custom and then select from the list.

What sort of "box"?

Windows Mail so have non-full-screen "box".

XP has an option called "Show window contents while dragging." I
assume Windows 7 has a similar option, although I can't tell you where
to find it or why it may have changed on its own.

Thank you. I Googled "Show window contents while dragging." and got
instructions. The option was turned on, but I turned it off then back on
and the problem went away. Must be some W7 bug!

Glad you got the problem sorted. Moving the outline only is
a way of dealing with a graphic intensive desktop that otherwise
"skids" across the screen. For those who might be interested,
the change can be made by:

Right click Desktop
Click Properties
Click "Effects" tab
Check "Show window contents while dragging"
Click "Apply" and click "Close"

And yes it is an old trick to uncheck a box, close it out,
then go back and recheck the box. Can unstick a balky
change.
