OT - Bing Toolbar

Dave

Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit.
IE 8

I was looking for MSN toolbar for IE, as a replacement for the Yahoo
toolbar, and kept getting redirected to the Bing Toolbar. Strange acting to
say the least, I downloaded, installed and it didn't show up. Rebooted, did
it again and same results. Finally went to the Tools menu and saw it listed,
I had to check it in order to enable it. After enabling, I found it comes
with 12 predefined buttons that you can select, deselect or move around.
But, there is no provision to add a button, so I searched again. The info I
found on MS site says you have to know how to configure a GUID in the
registry and there are four (IIRC) entries that have to be modified and/or
added.
Seems like a dead-end to me, I may go back to Yahoo toolbar.

Some of you already know this, I'm sure, but I just found a way to create
buttons without having to use a toolbar so I thought I'd share it for what
it's worth.
Under "Tools", "Toolbars" and check "Favorites Bar" this will display the
favorites tab with a blank row to the right of it all the way to the right
side. You can fill this blank row with buttons. When you go to a web site
that you want a button for, click and hold on the icon in the left side of
the address bar, drag it to this blank row and drop it and a button will be
created. Some of their names are long, you can rename, edit and etc. them.
These buttons won't automatically update like some of the email buttons do
on a toolbar, but other than that they are comparable.
HTH,
Dave
