opening laptop lid

When I open the Lid on this Toshiba L675-OOX Laptop, everything pops up out of sleep the way it should.
When I run it on Battery power, I can lift the Lid but it will not come out of Sleep. If I move the mouse, it does.
Can someone point out to me how to fix this so that when I lift the Lid on Battery Power, it will automatically come out of Sleep. Thanks in advance.

Go to Control Panel, then Power Options and you should find the settings there.

It's probably setup that way as a default setting. This is to potentially avoid running the battery down upon opening the laptop's lid. I would consider this a minor inconvenience really, just tap the TouchPad surface and you're up and running.

Thanks for the reply. I can find in the Power Settings what can be done when *closing the lid* but not opening the lid. I can't seemingly find anything to change what happens with the latter. If you've got further advice, please fire away.

Look here:
Control Panel >> All Control Panel Items >> Power Options >> Edit Plan Settings

Select "Change advanced power options"

Check settings for "Power buttons and lid"

Thank you Clifford for your suggestion. I've been in there and the only option I have is the "close lid* option - nothing in there regarding *opening the lid* out of sleep. Further advice or suggestions is going to be appreciated. Thanks!

If not where Cliff suggested then it would appear it is not supported by your notebook. I have a Toshiba A505-S6009 and it behaves the same as yours and I think that is proper too in today's environment.

When I go through airport security screening, I typically have to open the lid to show them it is a real notebook. Only once have I had to turn it on, and that was when I was "randomly" tagged for a secondary screening and then I had to turn on the notebook and my cell phone too. If everyone's notebook came out of sleep mode just by opening the lid when on battery, it may cause more delays in the lines as travelers held up the line waiting for their systems to finishing waking up so they could then gracefully shut it down again and pack it away in the travel bag.

Since the next operation after opening the lid is to press a key or wiggle the mouse anyway, I think you should just chalk this minor inconvenience up to another one of those small costs of Freedom.

Digerati, you make good sense. I never knew the new(er) machines operated this way but I guess I do now.

Before, I would never leave my unit in a sleep mode but would completely shut it down when travelling. And so the machine would not come on. If left in Hybernate, opening the Lid would not permit it to come on either. Probably that option was there but I certainly can live with this.

Well, I really don't know if that is new or if always been that way. But IIRC, it has always been that way. At least I seem to remember always having to press the power button after opening the lid when running on battery. But then again, I'm not a big fan or frequent user of notebooks so don't hold me that.
