No "pin to taskbar" option for some desktop shortcuts. Why????

Why is it in win7/hp that some desktop shortcuts have a "pin to taskbar"
option, while other desktop shortcuts do not? Is there some way in which
the latter can be pinned to the taskbar? Thanks

I don't know the answer to why, but you can still drag a shortcut to the
Taskbar.

Did you like the old Quick Launch toolbar that XP and Vista had? I
switched to that almost immediately after getting Win7 and icons
dragged to the Taskbar stick for me. If you're interested:

It is also easy to add a custom toolbar to the task bar.

1) Create an empty folder anywhere you like with any name you want.
2) Right click on the taskbar and select Toolbars>New toolbar.
3) Browse to your new folder and select it.
4) Add items to the new toolbar either by dragging them to the toolbar
on the taskbar or into the folder as shortcuts.

It seems to be definitely the case(for good reason) that only desktop
shortcuts to applications will show the pin to taskbar option when right
clicked. So if you have other stuff on your screen (Computer, recycle
bin, documents etc.) they will not show that option.

I suppose this is just obvious so is not what you meant, if so, beats me.

Either they aren't really shortcuts or the target is in a special folder
like "Documents".

I like Win 7 quick launch or whatever you want to call it because I'm not
limited to 4 icons showing. I have 13 showing on my computer right now.
