no audio in "real" flv player

For whatever reason, there is now no audio in "real player" when playing a
flv file with known audio.
While winamp and VLC play the same video just fine.
Did a system restore, no change.
installed k-lite codec pack, no change.
Reinstalled "real" player, no change.

I have a hunch it's due to a windows update.
But I am at a loss now as to how resolve the issue.
Anyone have a fix?

k-lite found a couple of bad codecs and removed them.

Ugh... You mean *that* "Real Player" from RealNetworks?

AFAIK, it uses it's own propietary codecs only, and never use VFW/DirectShow
codecs (last one I check was RealPlayer 10).

Apparently this is an issue that Real Player is working on.
It would appear that youtube has changed from the FLV format to MP4.
But still, older files that I have that were FLV, refuse to play the audio.
At least I can use winamp.

Been like it for years. Some files play sound, others don't, and there
doesn't seem to be any common factor. It's not only flv files that are
affected either. Exactly how long have Real Networks been "working on it"?

I'm always shocked to hear that someone is still using Real Player. There
aren't many of you left.

I recently discovered that it's still available somewhere (it might have
even been the Real site). I was definitely surprised :)

Wow, you're right. Straight from their website, they have two versions for
Win 8, even. I don't want to download a copy to take a look because I don't
want them to be able to say, 'Hey look, another download!" :)

I used to be a Superpass subscriber in my XP days... Got a number of
free albums and games from it.
