Need "mute" button!

As I come across more and more sites with spoken Flash ads, I find a
need for a "mute" button to switch the sound on and off. I can do it by
popping up the sound mixer box and clicking on the speaker icon, but I'd
like to do that in one operation from a shortcut on the taskbar. Any ideas?

This might do the trick. It's written primarily for XP but in the
comments they say it also works with Vista, making me think it may
also work in 7.

They talk about creating a shortcut and assigning it to a hotkey, but
if you prefer to use the shortcut directly you could just skip the
assignment to a hotkey.

Thanks! I even already had NirCmd.exe installed. I am using the 64 bit
version on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with a shortcut as described. It works
as advertised. I skipped the hotkey. I rarely use them.

Nircmd.exe is really neat! I've set up and tested the shortcut toggle
and it works nicely. Thanks for the tip.
